A downloadable project

Made as part of the first semester Playing with Cinema course.

The club scene from John Wick, recreated in Unity using motion captured animations.

The first phase of this project was analyzing the movie scene in order to get a paper version of our future level layout. While work on the assets and level blockout were ongoing, other team members were in charge of making a breakdown of the camera cuts, including timecodes, duration and actions for each involved actor.

From there we moved to the mocap studio. Using the scene breakdown we were able to direct the recording without too much wasted time, while making sure to have at least 2 versions of each scene in case we couldn't work with the raw data.

Afterwards, level design, programming and mocap data cleaning via Motionbuilder were all done in parallel. Once the cleaned-up animations were all implemented, work on the cameras could start, then polishing the game with set dressing, effects, sounds and quick-time events.

The recreated scene is also playable with a bespoke alternate soundtrack made for this project.
